Welcome!
Please join us for a short visit to our digital Mammography Department.
Some patients have already arrived and stay in a comfortable waiting area. If they brought prior exams with them, a technologist has already digitized the film mammograms. They are already available at your digital workstation. The patients got back the original films.
Now, a female technologist leads the woman to the digital mammography equipment. Using the direct access to the patient information system, the technologist loads the correct patient information. The digital mammography system is very fast and thus simplifies the tasks of the radiographer.
Women no longer have to wait while the films are developed. Just a couple of seconds after image acquisition, the images are available at your workstation. You now can start reading the images parallel to the patient consultation.
An integrated system for Computer-Aided Detection reviews images and serves as a "second read" for the radiologist. This can help to reduce misinterpretation by oversight. Your patients are impressed by the advanced technology. You can explain your findings in detail on the high-resolution workstation monitors.
The patient requests films to take them with her to the referring physician or for surgical treatment. Just a mouse-click, and the digital images are printed on film. When the patient leaves, she obtains the images to take with her at the reception.
You need an additional ultrasound examination. The digital ultrasound unit sends the images to your workstation. There they are added to the electronic patient record. The same holds for all further examinations such as MRT or pathology reports. All images and reports are stored in a central archive, the MammoPACS.
To report, just click the anatomic drawing on the reporting monitor of your workstation and enter the fields for BI-RADS classification and localization. Specialized reporting screens allow you to concentrate on the most relevant information or to add detailed information, entering text or using predefined text blocks.
The phone rings. A colleague requests your counsel. Using the patient manager, the images of the respective patient appear on your workstation. You discuss the case with your colleague. Just a couple of minutes later you continue your routine and ask the next patient to enter your office.
There is no searching for films any more. No people busily running around with film folders. No quality problems with chemistry of screen-film processing. Instead, workflows are optimized for the radiologist as well as for the technical staff. Most of all, the patients experience a calm and easy visit. All information is available from multiple workstations. Everybody in your department has a clear overview.
This is not fiction. Not wishful thinking. We happily invite you to visit a mammography department that works exactly like this!
